The harvest was poor and the price of corn was very high. Corn was very popular with the lower class. This then lead to famine.

We think famine is a very terrible thing, but it makes us happy that the government of New Spain tried to regulate the price of corn to control this problem.

Farmers avoided government controls by removing their corn from the control markets.

The government tried to regulate the price of the corn to control famine.

We think the government should have removed the black markets so people would be forced to shop at the markets.

Famine lead to high prices in corn and starving people.
